John "Jack" Seiverd, Sr.

July 7, 1943 — August 10, 2025

John "Jack" Howard Seiverd, Sr., 82, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away on August 10, 2025.

Jack was born in Ridley, Pennsylvania and grew up in Chester, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Chester High School in 1961. After getting his associate's degree in business, Jack proudly served in the Air Force from 1962 through 1966. He then moved to South Carolina where he attended Bob Jones University.  Upon graduating from Bob Jones in 1975, he started a small church. After leaving the ministry in 1978, he moved to Tampa, Florida where he then joined the Navy Reserves, serving as a "Seabee," from 1979 through 1981.

Throughout his life he held many jobs, from working as a Sears store assistant manager, carpenter, electrician, HVAC specialist, maintenance supervisor and janitor, security guard, window salesman, youth pastor, and pizza maker, among other things. He was very proud of his many work experiences and loved sharing the knowledge and wisdom he gained over the years with his children and grandchildren.

Jack and Hazel moved to Homerville, Georgia in 1991, where Jack became a police officer in the Homerville Police Department. He then joined the Clinch County Sheriff's Office where he served as a D.A.R.E. Officer and Chaplain for many years.

Feeling called back to the ministry, he went to Gateway Baptist Church in Valdosta, Georgia where he became head pastor. He had a heart for presiding over weddings, funerals, baby dedications, and baptisms, making each one special and unique. After serving in that role for over 10 years, he decided it was time to retire from full-time ministry. However, he rarely turned down a call from a fellow pastor to fill in or perform a ceremony of any kind.

Jack loved the Lord and left behind a legacy of strength, faith, and unwavering love. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, his congregation, and the many lives he touched throughout the years.

He was always happiest spending time with his large and growing family, especially if it involved a good meal. Whether it was a family gathering, a simple conversation, or one of his big hugs, Jack made everyone feel loved and valued.

Jack was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Hazel, and a loving father, "Pops," to his children. He was also a proud grandfather, "Pop Pop," to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and "Uncle Jack" to his nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Samuel, Gerald, Francis, and George Seiverd, his sister Gladys Crepak, and son David Keen.

Jack is survived by his wife Hazel Seiverd, his children; Vonnie (Tom) Schaffer (children: Michael, Joey, Jonathan), Donald Seiverd (children: Rebecca, Samantha, and Donald Jr.), John (Laura) Seiverd (children: Caleb and Katie), Adam (Mary Lee) Seiverd (children: Ashlyn and Nathan), and Robert (Marcy) Keen (children: Austin, Nicole, and Aiden), and his in-laws Shirley (Don) Love and Gerald Crepak.
